                                      INTERVIEW WITH ESHTADUR FROM COLOMBIA

Eshtadur, is a musical project created In 2005, the first single called Timo Be Timo, which opened the pursuit of a sound and style, next to this they created “Rebellion Of Angels” the first album with seven songs all composed by Jorge Lopez (drums) and Alex Giraldo (guitars) this was recorded at The Blast Studio, Colombia. For 2009, Eshtadur came back with a new line up and the next year, they played live shows again, but now with new songs and new work, also playing songs from first album. In 2011, Eshtadur appeared with a new album, “Dominated By Dummies”, composed and recorded in Colombia at 444 Studio, with an independent label from USA, an original Cd with ten tracks of new music all composed by Jorge Lopez, new music, harsher and stronger than the first one; this year the band played concerts all around Colombia with the Irish band “Abbadon Incarnate”. The band played with Vader in Lima Peru, June 2012, also played at SoulMetalFest 2012 with Masacre and Underthreat, next to that in the Convivencia Rock Festival, with Whiplash. Eshtadur make the video clip "Stay away from evil and get close to me", the single for new album 2013, then in April 2013 the band played with Cradle Of Filth in Medellin. Here's an interview for Aquelarre Zine.

1- How well has Eshtadur done so far in Colombia, Southamerica in general and rest of the world?
Well in Colombia we could play in every city and always people like our music, but here is more popular thrash metal, so when we could get chances, we are lucky, we played in peru last year, and we really could feel how people enjoy, consider and respect our work, they support us a lot. and because of our stranger genre, we are listened by Chile, Argentina, Brasil, other countries not like this melodic music so much.

2-Who would you like to tour the U.S. with?
i would say, it would be Ihsahn, but i would like to tour with any band there is no preferences hehe.

3- Tell me about the current line-up and where are you from exactly, i mean what part of Colombia?
We all are from Pereira, is a small city pretty similar to Medellin but smaller. the last 4 years i´ve work with two guitar players, now members of Eshtadur, Wilmer and Sebastian, and we have a new bass player his name is Andres, we played with a lot of drummers we dont have one for sure.

4-Tell me about the experience of sharing the stage with Vader in Lima-Peru? I'm asking you this question because i'm Peruvian and since i live in the states i always like to be informed about the Metal events over there.
I guess this show is one of the best, people from peru support us really nice, they like our music, and just playing next to vader was amazing, i learned so many things there, and i discovered, that Peru is a really organized country, and they like to spend all money the have to get real their goals as metal guys.

5-How would you compare the metal scene in the U.S. to that in Southamerica? It seems fans are more loyal in Southamerica. Do you agree?

Well, i guess the metal scene in every where, its about every moment, and sometimes there are moments that get some people lucky and other not too much, for example, last 20 years, we got the global thing of death melodic, pretty incredible with bands like at the gates and the forsaken, in flames, then we got death brutal metal, and nowadays, we have thrash metal every where in south america, when i was a kid, i started to play music like heavy metal, and easy stuff, but now children start playing music with songs from Death (the band), or obituary, songs pretty hard listenning. If we talk about underground scene, south america is really cool, i have to admit. And U.S as promoters, management, tour or stuff they are very smart, they take time for anything, and thats the way you have do to do everything, you have to take time for developing your tecniqh in your guitar or drums or somenthing, you have to get time for knowing, how to make a good and correct recording, you have to get time for make promotion, look visually nice, press and stuff, many things that some people ingnore.

6-How has the underground scene been to Eshtadur?  Zines, Promoters, even Radio playing?
Well, we are pretty lucky with underground stuff, i have to thank all people who support us, all around world.

7-What musical direction do you see yourselves going in for the next album?
I have to say it would be more solid, but i´d like to experiment even more with music, with changes, with harmonies. Honestly i cant know, because it depends of what things i will learn in the future.

8-Where does the songwriting come from?
When i started to think about a song, i forget all the world around me, if im studying at university, i fly away into my mind, and start to think about lyrics, about, what to tell people, about how i want to start a song. I write all about it and if i got a piano, or guitar near, i inmediatly start to play, sometimes i get ten or eleven different ideas, and other times i get nothing, or i get just one, when i get just one, i get a pretty cool melody hehehe, the choosen one. and then i develop structure of music, i make arrangements, i write it for listenning carefully and thats more or less how i write my music, but im inspired in all things that stay around me, movies, specially thrillers, orquestal music from movies, books, many things.

9-So was it an easy records to make in the end?
Yeah, i took my time, but was easy, everything appeared on my mind.

10-Have you had any label interest outside Colombia?
Well i got confused, if you mean, i´ve ever been interest in labels outside, yes, always, i think everyday of my life in global way, i have to be international, and if you mean, that if any label have ever been interested in Eshtadur, i have to say NO, never get lucky with that. Fortunately, now no labels were interested in my work, and i get offers from outside easier than, in my own country, sad but true, hehehe. Met.cA

11-How did you come up with your band name?
I was with my friends, and we talked about a book, in this book a writer from greece, used specific words to mean the reference of "rebellion of the angels". this word was Eshtadur. the act of how angels rebelled.

12-Major musical influences?
Easy one, i love ihsahn music, i love survivor, journey and all AOR stuff.
Cradle of filth, Dimmu borgir, Galder, soilwork, many more.

13-What new bands have you discovered lately?
Well, this week i listened a band, it was Shade Empire, sounds pretty cool, and about a year the best band i heard was Vidhjarta, very progressive with two vocalist. nice i think.

14-Well my friends, thanks for your time and good luck with your band. Any closing comments?
Thank You, for having this time.

Crescent Moon-Captured (E.p)
Thanks to Jana and the band for contacting me and send this promo Ep advance. Only three songs that are not released yet. Crescent Moon plays Melodic Death metal in the vein of old In Flames and Dark Tranquility but more sinister, 3 tracks featuring great solos, riffs, drumming , some keyboards and kick ass vocals, definitely looking  forward to hear the full lenght album soon. Good job guys!!

Eshtadur-Stay away from evil and get close to me (2013)
More extreme Metal from SouthAmerica. This time is Eshtadur from Colombia, this is some decent Death/Thrash metal, i don't know why in their bio they define their music as Black metal. Anyways, definitely they kick ass, the predominance of the old school is beckoned throughout these nine songs pillage, but i cannot deny the presence of some modern riffing as well. It will not be long before this band gets signed. Such talent from Colombia is rarely overlooked, not everything in Southamerica is about Sepultura, or Violator, there are tons of great bands that need to be discovered like this one. Memorable catchy manipulation of the double bass, heavy riffs, and the roar of the vocalist is a perfect match for a killer sound. This is cool stuff , one of the best new bands i have heard in 2013 along with Conceived by Hate from El Salvador. Don't consider yourself a true fan of Metal unless you own this flawless cd. Metalheads unite!!!

BornBroken-The healing powers of Hate (2013)
Here is a band that proves that Canadians can play Modern Thrash Metal just as well as any American boy. The sound isn't thin, but piercing, good use of riffings and guitar solos, and the parched throat of Anger itself. These guys hold their ground at any speed, and keep the listener interested, maybe not the best cd of 2013 so far, but certainly worth owning. Give this band a try. Good stuff!!

Subscale-The last Submission (2013)
Even though the vocals and style of the band sound too "modern" for my taste, Subscale still pumps out some decent Metal tunes, the heaviness and aggression is there but i really hate when they decide to combine that style of singing, you need to hear it for yourself and you'll be the judge.

Bloodtruth-Promo Ep-2012
Vicious brutality and a musical aggression that is seldom matched. Bloodtruth from Italy presents this Ep with 2 tracks of infernal Death metal , comparing it with early Morbid Angel and Deicide would perhaps be too obvious, but it wouldn't be a lie. These two songs are like a pack of starving wolves devouring it's fresh kill. Deadly precision and a violent intensity becomes one when these guys dives head first into battle. Definitely this band is exploring all the extremes and boundaries of the Death metal genre. Killer!!
